JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE TO REBUILD MARAWI
with the Philippine Business Group and Chambers of Commerce
Bureau of Internal Revenue, Quezon City
September 8, 2017
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to step up its tax collections to augment government funds needed for the massive rehabilitation of conflict-torn Marawi City.
In response, BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay committed to continue its ongoing tax administration reforms to further improve their revenue collections. He also made an appeal to the taxpaying public to help by paying the right taxes correctly and on time, and not to the “pockets” of some corrupt BIR personnel.
As the advocacy partner of BIR, the Center for Strategic Reforms of the Philippines (CSR Philippines) called on the Filipino “BAYANIHAN SPIRIT” of all Presidents and CEOs of Philippine Business Groups and Chambers of Commerce to increase their voluntary payments and settle all pending tax assessments to help collect more taxes and qualify for the Seal of Honesty (SOH) Certification Program.
Per RMC 60-2017, the SOH Certification Program aims to improve tax collections by promoting a culture of integrity and honesty in paying taxes.
Heads of different business organizations of the Philippine Business Group and Chambers of Commerce were in attendance and have pledged to support the Seal of Honesty Certification Program.
They have also lauded the efforts of CIR Billy Dulay in instituting a culture of honesty and integrity in the BIR and promised to heed the call of the President to increase the collection of taxes to help build Marawi as well as the other provinces hit by natural calamities.
